Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about how we work inside your home—from insurance and guarantees to brands, prep, and cleanup.

Are you insured and licensed to work in my home?

Yes. Parent Painting is fully licensed and carries comprehensive liability insurance coverage for every painter on your project. That means if something unexpected happens—like accidental damage or an on-site injury—you are protected and never held responsible. We’re happy to send a current certificate of insurance upon request before we start.

Do you offer any guarantees or warranties on your work?

Yes, we do guarantee our work. We stand behind the quality of our workmanship and ensure the job is completed correctly and to your satisfaction. If any issues arise related to our work, we’ll address them promptly

Which paint brands and finishes do you use?

We primarily use premium lines from Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams because they offer better coverage, richer color, and longer-lasting results for busy family homes. For most walls we recommend an eggshell or matte finish, satin for trim, doors, bathrooms, and high-moisture areas. If you have allergies or prefer low-odor options, we can specify zero-VOC or low-VOC products for your project.

Can I choose my own colors or match existing paint?

Absolutely. You can provide specific colors from any major brand, or we can color-match to an existing wall, fabric, or inspiration photo with surprising accuracy. If you’re unsure where to start, our team can also suggest family-friendly palettes that work with your flooring, countertops, and natural light. Final color approvals are always made by you before we begin painting.

How do you protect my furniture, floors, and belongings?

Protecting your home is a top priority. Before we open any paint, we carefully move or cover furniture with clean plastic, protect floors with drop cloths or rosin paper, tape off fixtures and hardware as needed, and create clear walking paths for your family. We also mask railings, countertops, and other nearby surfaces to prevent splatter. At the end of each day, we tidy the space so you can safely move through your home.

What does your prep and painting process look like?

Preparation is where a professional job really shows. We begin by lightly sanding glossy areas, filling nail holes and minor imperfections, repairing small cracks, and caulking gaps where appropriate. Stains are primed to prevent bleed-through. Once surfaces are smooth and clean, we apply one to two coats of premium paint using a combination of brush, roller, and occasionally sprayer, depending on the surface and location. Final touches include detailed cut-lines and careful inspection with you before we call the job complete.

Will there be strong paint odors in my home?

Today’s premium paints are much lower in odor than products from years ago, and we take extra steps to keep your home comfortable. We ventilate rooms as we work, can schedule painting while you’re at work or away for the day, and can specify low- or zero-VOC products, especially for nurseries and bedrooms. Most families find that any light odor is gone within a day or two after we finish.

How do you handle cleanup each day and at the end of the job?

At the end of each workday, we seal paint cans, clean tools, remove trash, and neatly stack materials in a designated area agreed on with you. Walkways are swept or vacuumed so your family can move around safely. On the final day, we remove all coverings, reinstall switch plates and outlet covers, perform a detailed sweep and vacuum, and wipe down surfaces as needed. We also complete a walkthrough with you to address any small touch-ups before we pack up.

Do I need to move my furniture or take things off the walls?

If you’re able to remove small, fragile, or highly valuable items before we arrive, that’s always helpful and reduces the risk of accidental damage. For larger furniture, our crew can carefully move and protect pieces as part of the job. We do ask that you remove artwork, framed photos, and wall-mounted decor beforehand, or clearly tag anything that should not be moved.

How long will my painting project take?

Timing depends on the size and complexity of the project, but a typical three-bedroom interior repaint takes 2–4 days from prep to final walkthrough. During your estimate, we’ll provide a clear timeline, discuss any special scheduling needs (like kids’ nap times or work-from-home calls), and keep you updated each day so you always know what to expect next.

How do you price your projects—by the room or by square footage?

We price based on the actual scope of work: surface condition, height of ceilings, number of colors and doors, amount of trim, and any repairs needed. For homeowners, this is usually presented as a clear, fixed price per project or per room—not open-ended hourly billing—so you know your total investment before we start. Your detailed written proposal will outline exactly what is included.

What happens if it rains during an exterior painting project?

For exterior work, we carefully track the weather and will never paint in conditions that will compromise the finish. If rain is in the forecast, we may adjust the schedule, focus on prep work under cover, or pause for the day. If unexpected weather affects freshly painted areas, we’ll return to inspect and recoat any sections that were impacted as part of our commitment to a durable, long-lasting finish.

Planning a larger project?

For whole-home repaints, exterior refreshes, or multi-room projects, we can schedule an on-site consultation to review surfaces, discuss colors, and provide a detailed written estimate.

No surprise fees. The price we agree on before we start is the price you pay, unless you choose to add additional rooms or services.
